Celebrating Heritage

Throughout the year, there are many opportunities to celebrate the traditions and richness of the local African American community. You can whet your appetite for these special celebrations here with photos and descriptions of the events. Hopefully they will spark your curiosity to participate more fully in the future.

COMMUNITY HISTORY FAIR
Join the gathering at the Enoch Davis Center in St. Petersburg to celebrate local African American history with neighbors as well as famous historians.

MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY PARADE

BLACK HISTORY PAGEANT
The Black History Pageant in St. Petersburg reached a 20-year milestone in 1998. Celebrate this community mainstay which showcases the talents of nearly 60 children and attacts about 2,000 people. (Please wait for slide show to load.)

JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION
Floridians observe Juneteenth Day on June 19th to commemorate the day slaves in Florida were notified of the Emancipation Proclamation. Here in St. Petersburg, it's a three-day celebration. (Please wait for slide show to load.)
